UCSD ECE Fall 2012 Admissions Updates
Applicants may check the status of their application at https://gradapply.ucsd.edu.
We received 1,030 applications to our Ph.D. degree program and 1,450 applications to our M.S. degree program.
Admission to our programs are highly competitive: for Fall 2012, we offered admission to 419 students (107 Ph.D. and 312 M.S.).
All M.S. admission offers for Fall 2012 have been processed.
All pending M.S. admission decisions will be made by Friday, April 20.
Non-fellowship candidates are encouraged to accept our admission offer by May 1.
Faculty are continuing to review applications to our Ph.D. program.

- A completed application online will have the status: "submitted".
- We endeavor to make all application decisions by April 15th, 2012.
The Fall 2012 application for all disciplines is now closed. Applications for Fall 2013 will open in August 2012.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants are considered for UCSD ECE admission for the Fall quarter only.
- All applicants must have a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics from an accredited college or university.
- All applicants are required to take the GRE General Test.
- All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for admission.
- International applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language:
- take the TOEFL and obtain a minimum score of 550 on the written version, 213 on the computerized version or 80 for the internet based test;
- take the IELTS and obtain a minimum Band Score of 7; or
- provide evidence of enrollment, full time, for a minimum of one year in an academic program at an English speaking institution. This is limited to institutions in English speaking countries such as England, parts of Canada and IS NOT APPLICABLE to institutions in non-English speaking countries like China, India, etc.

Do not proceed with the application process until you have read our department's admissions requirements listed above and reviewed our programs of study. Go to the OGS online application page and review the application procedures prior to filling out the application. The items below should be completed through the online application.
**Please request ETS to send GRE scores directly to UCSD. (Institution Code: 4836, Department Code: 1203) NOTE: Do not mail any of the above items or additional materials (except official GRE or TOEFL). They must be completed online exclusively using the online application system. |

GRE Information
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for every applicant to the department. There is no minimum GRE test scores required. As a guide, the average score of students admitted to the PhD program in 2011 was 788 (quantitative).

TOEFL / IELTS Information
Evidence of English language proficiency is required for all international applicants. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are accepted by the department. To apply, you must:
- Take the TOEFL and obtain a minimum score of 550 on the written version, 213 on the computerized version or 80 for the internet based test;
- Take the IELTS and obtain a minimum Band Score of 7; or
- Provide evidence of enrollment, full time, for a minimum of one year in an academic program at an English speaking institution.
