  • Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment ("Teaching Professor") Position

University of California, San Diego, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, http://www.ece.ucsd.edu/, invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (“LPSOE” or “Teaching Professor”) position. The LPSOE series is a University of California-wide faculty series with equivalent rights and responsibilities as the more traditional tenure-track faculty series, but with a stronger emphasis on teaching and scholarly activity related to education, rather than on traditional disciplinary research activities.

Successful candidates will be outstanding educators and should provide evidence of effective and innovative undergraduate teaching in electrical and computer engineering. They should also provide evidence of scholarly activity outside the classroom that has led to advances in electrical and computer engineering education. In addition to teaching core courses, candidates are expected to lead the development and assessment of new educational initiatives and hands-on projects, including applying for grants related to education. The successful candidate will provide guidance, leadership, and innovation for the ECE undergraduate programs, with a specific focus on both adding to the high quality of these programs and on broadening the diversity of the student body in these programs. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree or advancement to candidacy, at the time of application, in electrical engineering, computer science, engineering physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related area.

ECE is home to over 50 faculty, 500 graduate students, and 1300 undergraduate students who span a range of research areas in communication theory and systems, computer engineering, electronic circuits and systems, electronic devices and materials, photonics, signal and image processing, medical devices and systems, and intelligent systems and control. In addition, the department works closely with the Center for Memory and Recording Research (CMRR), the Qualcomm Institute (QI), the San Diego Super Computer Center (SDSC), Center for Wearable Sensors, and the Center for Wireless Communications (CWC), which provide unique opportunities and resources.

  • Multiple Ladder-Rank Faculty Positions

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, invites applications for a tenured faculty position (Associate or Full Professor) and for multiple tenure-track faculty positions (Assistant Professor) in our dynamic and rapidly growing department. ECE is part of the Jacobs School of Engineering, committed to building an excellent, diverse and inclusive faculty, staff and student body (http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/diversity/). Partnership with industry and our community is at the core of the School's mission; the successful applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous program of high quality research that complements existing collaborative research programs and reflects UC San Diego's leadership as a research university. This position requires teaching of university students and applicants are required to have a PhD (advancement to candidacy is also acceptable if applying to the Assistant level). The degree should be in electrical engineering, engineering physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related area. Specific directions of the ECE department include but are not limited to: Circuits; Computer Engineering, Networks, Power, Communication; Robotics; and Data Science. Candidates with experience with or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in someone interested in using human-centered design in partnership with UC San Diego’s Design Lab in their research or teaching (see dlab.ucsd.edu). Salary is based on published UC San Diego pay scales and competitive market conditions.
