About

UC Health Hack (UC HH) is an annual interdisciplinary hackathon hosted by UC San Diego Health & UCSD's Engineering World Health (EWH), an undergraduate student-led organization. Students, physicians, and industry professionals will have the chance to address and attempt to solve integrative medicine and global health issues in a fast-paced, competition format. During the competition, teams of up to five members collaborate over the course of two days to solve critical medical problems, under the guidance of world class mentors and field experts. Overall, participants will bring their ideas to fruition with access to prototyping software, hardware supplies, and fabrication labs. All projects will be presented to judges in a project expo, with finalists moving on to present to a panel of judges who will select the winning teams.

Impact

UC Health Hack was created in order to promote innovation in healthcare and to inspire participants to develop solutions that are particularly focused on solving current medical problems.

The goal of UC HH is to:

  1. Improve standards of living in low-resource communities through low-cost innovations
  2. Close healthcare gaps from the acute care setting to precision medicine at home, empowering patients and their providers.

Teams will be divided into two tracks to focus on one of these two goals. Each track has 1st and 2nd place winners.

Through the support of the UC San Diego Health, UC Irvine Health, Rady Children's Hospital, and partnerships with on campus incubators such as the Von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurship and The Pepper House, winning teams will have the opportunity to pursue their ideas and develop them further through mentorship, access to lab space, and further funding opportunities.
